AJ Tracey is arguably the brightest MC talent to emerge from the UK’s buzzing grime underground in 2015. Kaleidoscopic wordplay and crystal-clear vocal delivery subtly reference the heritage of his scene whilst sounding like absolutely nobody else. Where AJ really comes into his own is his versatility – nailing everything from raucous club bangers and bumping sweetboy jams to the grittiest road anthems with peerless proficiency.
“AJ Tracey has killed it this year” – FACT Magazine
“A serious lyricist with remarkable clarity on mic and a relentless appetite to spray” – The Quietus
“You get the sense that he could rap about anything–and have fun doing it.” – Pigeons & Planes
2015 has been a breakthrough year for AJ. From the release of summer EP The Front, an appearance on BBC 1Xtra’s Next Generation Live, a FACT TV freestyle, to a relentless broadcast schedule including Rinse, Boiler Room, NTS, Radar and 1Xtra – it’s becoming impossible to avoid his name. International attention already beckons, with US institution Pigeons & Planes picking him as their Daily Discovery in October.
Excitement has been growing fast through the autumn: singles Spirit Bomb and Naila have already clocked over 150k plays on Soundcloud and YouTube, enjoying heavy radio rotation on Rinse, Beats1 and across the BBC network. December sees the much-anticipated release of Alex Moran EP and the debut of his new live set. With club shows across the British Isles already in the diary for 2016, AJ looks set to tackle the new year headfirst.
