Calyx is a UK based drum and bass act, specialising in techstep and neurofunk styles. Previously this project had two members, Larry Cons and Chris Rush (both of Oxford), but nowadays it is a solo project of Larry Cons.
Beginning in early childhood, Calyx, real name Larry Cons, had his first release in 1998. Originally fromOxford, this nowSouth Londonbased musician has an extensive background in music. He studied 5 instruments from a young age and growing up was involved in several groups and bands, in a variety of genres.
Calyx has had releases from a large array of well respected labels that include Moving Shadow, Metalheadz, V Recordings, Renegade Homeware, Subtitles, Violence Recs, Audio Couture, Ill Skillz Recs, Intercom, Rugged Vinyl, Thunderous Audio and Momentum Music to name but a few.
His debut album ‘No Turning Back’ on Moving Shadow was acknowledged as the drum and bass highlight of 2005. It consisted of four collaborations with TeeBee, Gridlok and Ill Skillz, remixes by Dom and Roland and Hive and Gridlok and finally four solo tracks. Each individual track has gained huge DJ support and the album was in such high demand it had to be reprinted three times within it’s first six months of release.
Calyx is now working alongside TeeBee on a second collaborative album consisting of varied styles, branching beyond their usual drum and bass style.
