Earl Gateshead (Trojan Soundsystem)
Earl began Djing in 1979 when he played reggae records between punk bands in Brixton.
He built his own Sound System and installed it in The Dive Bar in London’s Soho where he established a reputation throughout London and the world during his 22-year residency. During the latter part of his Dive Bar years, Earl was Saturday night resident at clubs such as the internationally acclaimed Blue Note and later at Fabric.
He was asked by ‘Plastic People’ owner Ade Fakile to run a series of reggae nights at the club. The events he organised there received world wide attention and the night’s reputation drew all the major performers in the reggae world from Alton Ellis to Dennis Alcapone , Adrian Sherwood and Saxon Sound System.
As his reputation grew Earl began to tour with artists such as Big Youth, Dr Alimantado and Cutty Ranks as DJ and Selector.
Earl is currently selector and performer with Trojan Sound System. The Sound System of the worlds largest Reggae label Trojan Records.
