From Wellington, New Zealand seven piece dub/reggae band Fat Freddy’s Drop will be gracing Pula in 2012 to bring their phat tracks that range from soul, dub, reggae, techno to some even containing flavours of the blues.
Begun in 2001, the current line up consisting of DJ Fitchie, Joe Dukie, Toby Chang, Ho Pepa, Chopper Reedz, Jetlag Johnson, and Dobie Blaze recorded their first live album in Matterhorn, a popular Wellington nightclub. Following on from this they went on to release their first successful studio album ’Based on a True story’, going gold within its first day of release.
The band released their second major studio album ‘Dr Boondigga & The Big BW’, in 2009, which also shipped gold on the first day of release. Continually recognised at the New Zealand music awards, having won Best Group, Best Album, Best New Zealand Roots Group, the Peoples Choice Award, Highest Selling NZ Album and, in 2005, winning “Album of the Year Award” as voted for by over 20,000 listeners from Gilles Peterson’s BBC Radio 1 ‘Worldwide’ show, there is no denying they are set to do something big on the main stage at Outlook.
